Susan Boyle is the Greatest Singer of All Time (According to Soundscan)
I chose to completely ignore the whole Susan Boyle phenomenon here at Catnip when it first hit the web, but I just found the numbers on Susan Boyle’s debut album too fascinating not to share. Here is how it breaks down:
• I Dreamed A Dream is the biggest debut on the Billboard charts since it started using SoundScan 20 years ago.
• It was the largest CD pre-order in Amazon’s history.
• It’s the only 2009 release to hold No. 1 on Billboard charts for six weeks, and it’s the only debut in the chart’s 53-year history to spend that long in the No. 1 spot.
Keep in mind, this album was released on the 23rd of November, so it only had a little over a month to become the best selling album of 2009. While it would take a cold, cold heart not to be happy for Susan’s success, it’s hard not to look at those numbers and wonder what they mean for the entertainment industry.
