Beach House - Norway
After hearing the new Beach House album, Teen Dream, for the first time, I knew immediately it would be one of my favorite albums of the year. Every song on the album is beautifully composed, with a dreamy white-wash of sound that constructs a universe where all the songs hold together, instead simply a collection of disconnected songs. While any track on the album would be worthy of recognition, Norway is certainly the most accessible, with it’s pounding drum beat and massive hook. Victoria Legrand’s vocals on this track are at their most ethereal, especially on the looping, breathy backup vocals that propels the track along. If you haven’t picked up this album yet, you owe it to yourself to hear the best album of 2010 thus far.
