The New Pornographers
“Your Hands (Together)”

The first mp3 from the forthcoming New Pornographers album Together is up on the Matador blog this morning. I like it, but I’m holding out for more exciting material. My early opinion is that it’s nice, but in terms of lead singles, it’s not exactly a “The Laws Have Changed” or “Letter From An Occupant.” The blog also the tracklisting for the album. I would be kinda let down if “Valkyrie at the Roller Disco” is not a Dan Bejar song. Unless, that is, Neko Case is singing in character as a Valkyrie, and it’s actually a disco song.

While I do agree with Fluxblog that this track isn’t the most exciting lead single ever created, I have to quote Noel Murray from the AV Club, who echos my thoughts on this super-group precisely:

‘Last year’s Challengers seemed to some to be the first real slip-up from Canada’s favorite semi-supergroup, but I submit that the only real problem with The New Pornographers is that they’ve been so consistently good. […] So we nitpick, failing to fully appreciate that The New Pornographers keep pumping out songs that improbably get grabbier on the 10th listen than they are on the first. When The New Pornographers project finally ends, oh how we will mourn. And we’ll retroactively treasure every record—including Challengers.’
