Big Star - Thirteen
While Big Star have received wider public attention from In the Street (i.e. the theme song from That 70s Show), it pales in comparison to Thirteen, the best track off the power-pop masterpiece(s), #1 Record/Radio City. While musically very simple, Alex Chilton’s shaky, unsure vocal delivery is what elevates this song to another level. The beautiful lyrics about the innocent time in a kid’s life when the only thing that kept them up at night was whom to ask to the school dance, it’s impossible to listen to this masterpiece and not become awash in nostalgia.
